====== Installing the server.py service on Windows ======

This service does the same job as the Linux version: it talks to PWmat's servers to verify and load your software license. Once it's installed and running, the PWstudio container can obtain a valid authorization and be used normally. The only difference is that this time it's installed on Windows (or the Windows host that WSL runs on top of).

==== 1. Download the license service installer and upload it to the server ====

Open the link above in a browser, enter the username/password, and download the ''PWmatLICENSE_win.zip'' archive to your Windows computer.

If you're working on your own Windows computer, there's no need to upload it to another server at this step — just continue with the following steps locally;

If you want to work on a server running Windows, copy the downloaded installer over to that Windows server and continue the steps there.

==== 2. Extract the installer ====

> Right-click → ''Extract All'', then go into the ''PWmatLICENSE_win'' folder
> In an empty area of the folder, right-click → ''Open in Terminal'', and run the following command

> The first command enters the extracted archive — find the PWmatLICENSE_win directory that contains get_hdwkey.ps1
> The second command runs the script, which reads the hardware information of this computer (or the Windows server) and generates a key string made of numbers and letters — this key is what you'll use later when requesting the license file (if this command errors out, see the fix below)
> The third command prints that content directly to the terminal window

If you get an error, see: [[en:pwstudio:qa:q105|Running a PowerShell script fails on Windows]] (by default, Windows blocks running unsigned scripts as a security measure — this is the most common cause of the error; follow the steps in q105 to fix it)

Once you have the key, use the following link to request and obtain the license files

> Request a [[http://a.lonxun.com/client/apply_license|PWstudio license file]]

> Paste the ''pwmat_hdwkey'' value you just generated into the corresponding field on the license request form (just copy and paste the key text the terminal printed out)
>
> The license files, pwmat.lic and pwmat.sig, will be emailed to you (please check your inbox, including your spam folder)
>
> Place the pwmat.lic and pwmat.sig files you received into the PWmatLICENSE_win folder you just extracted (just download the email attachments and drag them into this folder)

==== 4. Start and check the service ====

Once you have the license files and placed them in the PWmatLICENSE_win folder, run the following in the same terminal window:

The first command starts the service, the second checks its current status. If it shows "running," the service started successfully, and you can go back to the previous installation page and continue with the next step.
